Renault megane electronic fault. Can anyone help me?

Yesterday my penger side indicator (all of them) were playing up. The lights were very dull and not flashing properly. Today the service light has come on saying electronic fault and the dashboard lights are now flashing when I put the penger side indicator on. I know I need to take it to a car electric place, but being a woman I'd like to have some idea as to what is wrong as I don't want to get fleeced. Its a 2003 1.8Dci. 45000 miles. Got any advice?
